Description
Temperature requirements:
Sugarcane is a tropical and subtropical crop. It requires a warm climate for optimum growth.
-It grows well in temperatures ranging between 20 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. Extreme temperatures, either too hot or too cold, can adversely affect the crop.
-It requires an annual rainfall of about 75-100 cm. However, it is sensitive to waterlogging, so well-distributed rainfall or supplemental irrigation is crucial.
Soil Type:
Sugarcane can grow in many soil types, ranging from heavy clays to extremely sandy soils. It can tolerate a considerable degree of soil acidity and alkalinity and can grow in soils with a pH ranging from 5 to 8.5. Well-drained loamy soil with a neutral pH of 6.5–7.5 is considered the best soil for growing sugarcane. The soil should be loose and friable, with a minimum depth of 45 cm. It should also have sufficient nutrients and no soil compaction.
